Description	:	Thomas L. Sowers, 81, Napoleon, Ohio, died Wednesday morning, June 16, 2010, at CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center. Born July 25, 1928, in Fairpoint, Ohio, he was the son of Harold and Anne (Harrison) Sowers. On July 5, 1962, he married Mary E. Turley. He was raised by a stepfather, Glessner Smith. Tom retired from Johns Manville in Defiance. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 300 and AMVETS Post 1313. Tom is survived by his wife, Mary, of 47 years; two children, Tammy Alvarado of Defiance and Thomas J. (Jennifer) Sowers, Fountain, Colorado; three grandsons, Bradley T. Sowers, of the family home, Thomas J. Sowers Jr. of Fountain, Colorado, and Austin Alvarado of Defiance; one brother, James Smith, Pennsylvania; one sister, Nancy (Glen) Tenneyson of McDonald, Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty Wise, Catherine Worthington, Gertrude Neese and Opal Smith; and a brother, Earl Sowers. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, with Rev. Jerry Steen officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview Memory Gardens, rural Defiance County, where military honors will be accorded by the joint veterans’ posts of Napoleon.
