Description	:	Thomas Keene, age 74, of Valley City, ND, died March 29, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Friday, April 3rd at Trinity Lutheran church in Valley City with Rev. Marilee Bergerson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM Thursday at the Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home and 1 PM until 2 PM Friday at the church. Interment will take place in Memory Gardens Cemetery later in the spring. Thomas Lee Keene was born July 25, 1934 at Grafton, ND, the son of Harvey and Harriet (Whitcher) Keene. He moved with his family to the Valley City area and attended school at Getchell Township School and later at College High School. He then lived at Circle, MT and on the west coast for a time before entering the US Navy in 1951 and serving in Korea. While in the Navy, he lived in Illinois, California, and Washington when he wasn't serving at sea. On Dec. 26, 1956, he married Velva Schwartz at Trinity Lutheran church in Litchville, ND. He left the Navy in 1961 and returned to Valley City where he attended VCSU. He moved to Moorhead, MN in 1968 and worked full time for the military until 1975. That year, he again returned to Valley City where he was employed as a carpenter. Tom retired from the Army National guard in 1981 at the rank of Sergeant First Class. His hobbies included photography, woodworking, and target shooting. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren, and with his friends at Kenny's Restaurant. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Velva, three sons, Rick (Wendi), Phoenix, AZ, Bruce (Rhonda), Phoenix, AZ, and Joel (Katie), Otsego, MN; two sisters, Pat , Mrs. Jerry Langemo, Valley City, ND and Gail, Mrs. Duane Bailey, Bismarck, ND, 8 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 1 step great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Terry.
