Casket bearers were Jeff Harris, Mike Healy, Tom Watts, Tom Monthei, Jim Lyons and Tim Watts. Interment was in Willow Township Cemetery, Greene county, with military rites conducted by the Scranton V.F.W. and the Bayard American Legion. Slininger-Rossow Funeral Homes of Jefferson and Grand Junction was in charge of services. Thomas Leo Lyons Jr. was born March 25, 1918, on a farm in Willow township in Greene county near Bayard. He was the son of Thomas and Mary Kennedy Lyons. Ike, as he was known to his many friends, grew to manhood on the farm, attended rural school near his home, then attended a Catholic grade school in Coon Rapids for two years before graduating in 1935 from Bayard High School. He farmed with his father until he entered the Army on April 25, 1941. Ike served in the South Pacific Theater of Operations for three years as a sergeant in the 147th General Hospital on Christmas Island. He received his discharge from the service Oct. 1, 1945, and returned to farm in Willow township. Ike was united in marriage with Margaret Mary Healy on June 5, 1945, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Scranton. They were the parents of four children. The couple farmed in Willow and Jackson townships in Greene county for several years Ike was employed at Franklin Manufacturing Company in Jefferson from 1961 until 1984 when he retired. He was a member of St. Paul Church in Scranton. He also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Scranton and the American Legion in Bayard. Ike died Sept 7, 1988, in Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janet Ann, who died in infancy; and a brother, John Patrick Lyons, in 1976. Those who survive include his wife Margaret; their children, Janice and her husband Dale Welker of Newport, NC, Connie and her husband Dennis Hoyt of Quincy, IL, and Pat and his wife Joan of Morrison, CO; four grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Watts of Panora and Margaret Harris of LaCrosse, WI; a brother, Edward (Bud) Lyons of Bayard, and several nieces and nephews.
