He was born in Chatham County, North Carolina; emigrated in the fall of 1830, and settled on a farm, where he remained until his death; and notwithstanding the many privations and hardships, incidental to a pioneer life, he with a few other, soon succeeded in establishing a meeting, which was subsequently located on his farm, and known as Rush Creek Particular, Preparative, and Monthly Meeting. Though this dear friend was not a person of much outward demonstration, being a man of few words, very unassuming and humble minded; much inclined to the perusal of the doctrines of the Society of Friends.
