Description	:	May 7, 1913, Westphalia News: " Thomas M. Shaughnessy was born in Iowa 38 years ago March 20. He died at his home just south of Westphalia, April 25th after an illness of two weeks. His funeral was held at St Theresa Sunday, the remains laid to rest by the side of his wife who preceded him on March 6th. The dear wife died only seven weeks before him, now Tom is gone, both young people. He now must leave them to others, though he made a manly fight to live, and never gave up. It was the saddest death we have ever known. Young and in his prime and ambitious, he was stricken down and the little ones will grow up not realizing the parental love of a father and mother. Tom resided here since 1901 and was engaged in the mercantile business. For several years he was associated with his brothers and brother-in-law John Barry. The last five or six years he was the senior member of Shaughnessy & Agnew in the Hub Store. Only this spring he bought the Joseph Hoefler farm 80 acres south of town for a place to rear his family. When the time came to move, his little daughter Geraldine was dangerously ill, his wife was stricken and died, after which he and the children moved. No sooner had they moved till poor Tom was stricken. It couldn't be worse, a good man is gone from us.
