Description	:	Thomas was a veteran of the War of 1812. Thomas was a private in the company commanded by Capt. Bradbury Bartlett in the NH Militia. He enlisted at Pembroke, NH on May 24 for 44 days and was honorably discharged in Portsmouth, NH on July 6, 1814. He enlisted again at Epsom, NH from Sept. 26, 1814 to November 11, 1814 and served under Capt. Edward Fuller. Thomas married Sarah B. Pillsbury on Oct. 29, 1829 in Pembroke, NH. From at least 1850 through 1874 Thomas lived in Allenstown, NH and was a farmer. Thomas received bounty land for his military service - 40 acres in 1850 and 120 acres in 1855. Beginning in 1871, Thomas received a military pension of $8.00 per month. After Thomas' death, his widow Sarah Martin applied for and received the pension. Sarah Martin died about December 1883. According to the Genealogical & Family History of the State of New Hampshire, Thomas was the son of Samuel, a shoemaker, and Sarah (Cochran) Martin. In politics he was a Democrat and was a very popular man in his party. He served as a tax collector and represented Allenstown for two years in the legislature. He had two daughters - Annie S., who died in 1889 and Caroline (Carrie) M. (Martin) Harvey who died in 1918. Thomas' brother Noah was a doctor and governor of NH from 1852 - 1854. Noah Martin is buried in Dover, NH.
