Lloyd White of Neptune. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, under direction of the Sharp Funeral Home, where friends may call after 7 p.m. Tuesday. The rosary will be recited at Sharp's on Tuesday at 7:30 and 8:30 p.m., and Wednesday at 3, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. Military rites at the cemetery will be conducted by Maurice Dunn Post No. 7, American Legion. Mr. Maher was born Jan. 7, 1889, at Arcadia, a son of Michael and Mary Maher. He spent his young manhood at Arcadia, and served ten months in the infantry overseas during World War I. On Sept. 6, 1920, he was married to Veronica Lawler in St. Joseph's Church, Wall Lake, with the late Rev. James Slattery officiating. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Maher lived in Arcadia, where he was engaged in the draying and mail carrying business. For a short time, they lived at Halbur, then moved to Carroll, where he operated an oil station at Third and Carroll Streets. When the Iowa State Liquor store opened in Carroll, Mr. Maher was its first manager. Later, he opened a hog buying station at Breda, operating it until his retirement. The Maher home is at 819 North Adams Street. Mr. Maher was a member of St. Lawrence Church and Maurice Dunn Post No. 7, American Legion. He is survived by his wife; two brothers, Clair of Manilla, and William, Marshalltown; and one sister, Mrs. Leo (Agnes) Downey, Wall Lake. Preceding him in death were his brother, Joseph Maher, and another brother in infancy.
