Description	:	Thomas Hammond was born March 24, 1848, in Morrell county (sic), Ohio and departed this life at Minden November 4, 1930, aged 82 years, 7 months and 10 days. On March 12, 1873, he was united in marriage with Miss Hannah Palmer in Monroe county (sic), Iowa, to which union were born four children Jesse C., Isabella May and James, all of whom died in 1893 of typhoid fever, and Mrs. Hettie E. Koontz who alone survives her father. Mrs. Hammond passed away July 15, 1915 He is survived by four grand children and two great grand children and many friends. He came to Nebraska in the 70s and with but brief exception he has lived in and around Nelson all of this time, retiring from the farm to engage in stock buying. Early in life he was converted and joined the Covenanter church, becoming a member of the Methodist church in Nelson in 1893, where he held his membership at the time of his departure. He was very active before ill health overtook him and was largely instrumental in the building of the basement under the present church building.
