Mr. Mooney's death was due to heart disease. He had been failing for some time and last week caught a severe cold while on a visit to Camp Dodge. He was stricken with an attack of heart failure a few days later when down town but rallied Saturday evening, while his sister Mrs. Mary Fanton, was reading to him. Mr. Mooney arose to get a drink and fell dead. Mr. Mooney was a native of Ireland where he was born May 24, 1841, the oldest child of Martin and Nellie Mooney. At the age of 5 he came with his parents to this country the family settling in St. Lawrence county New York. At the age of 16, he went to Springfield, Illinois, and there in 1862 enlisted in Civil War with the One Hundred Fourteenth Illinois Infantry. He served until the close of the war, coming to Iowa in October 1865, and settling on a farm six miles west of Gilman. He moved to Gilman in 1881 and ever since has made his home with his sister Mrs. Fanton. Surviving Mr. Mooney are three sisters, Mrs. Mary Fanton and Mrs. Samuel Breckenridge of Gilman, and Mrs. Lloyd Fanton, of this city. One sister, Mrs. Anna Stone, is dead as are also three brothers, G.M., J.A., and John Mooney. Mr. Mooney was a member of the Odd Fellow's Lodge of Gilman. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Methodist church at Gilman, in charge of Rev. N.F. Norton. Burial will follow in the Gilman cemetery. Added 26 Jul 2018
