Read More	OBITUARY Thomas Morton, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Morton, was born in Fairfield County, O., August 31, 1834, and died in Canal Winchester, December 20, 1908, aged 74 years, 8 months and 19 days. He was united in marriage to Adaline Swim in 1868. To this union were born two daughters--Mrs. W. E. Pearsoll of Canal Winchester and Mrs. Adaline Cunningham of Findlay, Ohio. His wife died April 8, 1870. In the year 1881 he united in marriage to Mary C. Andrews of Logan, Ohio. In a series of meetings conducted by Rev. Brown, pastor of the U. B. church in hi-fifty ninth or sixtieth years he was born of the Spirit. And with his soul filled to over-flowing with the new found hope he longed to proclaim the good news of salvation to the world. But our nation was on the eve of rebellion and disunion. There was a race to be emancipated at any cost, and when the call came for men to meet the enemy he was one of the first to enlist. And though frail in body he had a heart that had no fear, and with assurance of victory he endured the hardships of that entire conflict with a bonyant heart and willing mind. His comrades say he was a good soldier and that is a tribute worthy to be remembered. On account of impaired health he was not engaged in any particular business for several years previous to his death. Most of his time was spent in reading, a pastime of which he never tired. He had an excellent memory, and a clear mind as long as he was conscious. He considered as honest man the noblest work of God, and he demonstrated by his little acts of kindness and love that gentleness which characterized the man whose mission it was to go about doing good. During his long affliction he was never heard to complain or murmur, and so amiable and lovable was he that we feel his sun has only set to rise more glorious and beautiful on the morning of that Eternal day. He was a familiar figure in Canal Winchester, having lived here the most of his life. He was of a kidly disposiion, with a good word for everyone, and especially was he a kind husband and father. He leaves to mourn his departure, a devoted wife, two daughters, one brother, four step-children and many relatives and friends. The funeral services were held in the U.B. church Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., conducted by Rev. Geo. F. Hughes, assisted by Rev. J. Heffley. Interment in Union Grove Cemetery. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were: Mr. V. Morton, Mr. and Mrs. Will Whaley and daughter Frances, and Miss Jennie Morton of Ashville; William Durant of Logan; Mrs. Aggie Whitsel, daughter Gladys and brother, Thomas Sampsel of Etna; Mr. and Mrs. Will Sampsel of Pickerington, Mrs. Charles Shumaker and daughter, Mrs. Carl Steirt of Columbus; Jacob Dovel and wife of Pickerington, and Mr. and Mrs. Lu Durant of Lithopolis.
