Adams Sun, Bingen, WA., March 20, 1942, page 1 Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Gardner Funeral home for Thomas Newton Talbert who died Friday, March 13 at Home Valley. He was born in January 28, 1850, in Pike county, Illinois, and at that time of his death was ninety-two years, one month and sixteen days of age. He lived in Illinois until the fall of 1878 when he came to Oregon. In the spring of 1879 he came to Goldendale, Washington, and spent the most of his remaining years in this county. In 1888 he moved to Cleveland, where he took up a homestead and a bought other properties which he farmed till 1910, raising stock and grain. He sold the farm at that time and came to White Salmon. He served as deputy sheriff of Klickitat county in 1882. He was married on January 1, 1883 to a Nellie May Billington. To this union of five children were born; Geda E., deceased; Walter I., residing at a White Salmon; Mary, deceased; Myrtle I., deceased; and Harry W., residing at Home Valley, Wash.. Mrs. Nellie Talbert passed away in July 1, 1918. Besides the two living sons, he is survived by a brother, Charles L. Talbert of White Salmon, ten and grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The grandchildren are; Mrs. Blanche Sager, Mrs. Dorothy Young, Elaine Earl and Janice Talbert of White Salmon, Mrs. Lois Barber of the Klickitat, Mrs. Alice Selner of Tonasket, Lieut. Howard L. King of the U.S. Air Corps, Charles King of Brewster, Wash., and Doris N. Talbert of Home Valley. Mr. Talbert was originally a member of the Presbyterian Church, and after moving to White Salmon in 1910, became a member of the Methodist Church.
