Read More	An excerpt from his newspaper obituary of April, 1942: Born in Pistene, Bohemia, in 1859, Mr. Polda would have been 83 years old April 24. He was a son of Frank and Mary Polda. He lived with his parents in Bohemia until 1871 when the family came to the United States, settling in Protovine, IA. In the fall of 1880, after three years of crop failure in Iowa because of cinch bugs, Mr. Polda with John Busta and his family decided to come to Dakota, They traveled as far as Minneapolis by wagon, reaching there in the middle of October. A heavy rain which turned to snow compelled them to take the train to Breckenridge and from there they continued by wagon to the prairie shack of his brother, Peter Polda. For two months the two families lived in the 12 by 16 foot house and then Bustas went to live with Don Nulph in a sod shanty. The following year Mr. Polda filed on a homestead in Park township and it was in his shack the first election was held in 1883, at which time Park was divided into Grant, Moran, and Duerr townships. Before Lidgerwood was organized he was road overseer, and he plowed the furrow which marked Wiley avenue when the city was being platted. In 1883 Mr. Polda was married to Anna Matuska, who died in 1922.
