Leonard, Kesiah Leonard, and Adeline Leonard. He had one known child with Margaret Ridgeway: Orin Leonard b. Oct 1869 in Iowa. From Nevada Representative July 31, 1901 OBITUARY, Mr. Thomas R. Leonard died at his home in the south part of town Monday evening last, He had been feeble and nearly blind for some years, but of late there had been no apparent diminution of strength till last Friday evening, when sensibility and the sense of hearing left him. Monday morning early he set out to visit his physician, Dr. Smith, Mrs. Leonard having been unable to detain him or to make him understand that Dr. Smith was out of town. He made the trip down town, accompanied by hi little grandson, Joey Maynard, was disappointed in the object sought, and had reached the Page corner on his return when his strength failed and he lay upon the ground. Neighbors came to his relief and helped him home. His strength rallied a little at twilight but it was the flaming up of the expiring candle, and he died at nine o'clock. His funeral is conducted by Rev. Dudley at the Methodist church. Mr. Leonard was born in Maryland November 22, 1819, and was therefore at the time of his death, July 29, 1901, in his 89th year. His father removed with his family to Ohio when the son was a lad, and the latter in his early manhood came to Iowa. He served about three years in Company I of the 39th Iowa Infantry during the War of the Rebellion, and was discharged with broken health. He was twice married. His children were the fruit of his first marriage. They were two sons--James, who shared the father's army life and died in hospital attended by his care, and W. E., who now resides in Sioux City; and three daughters-- Mrs. Elizabeth Brown of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Addie Hollister of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Kittie, wife of Eli Shepherd of St. Charles, Iowa, who used to live in Nevada and who died two years ago. His second marriage was in Nevada twenty eight years ago to Mrs. Ann Maynard, who has taken the faithful stay of his age and disability, and who now survives him. From Story County Watchman August 2, 1901 On Monday evening T. R. Leonard died in this city at the advanced age of 87 years. He has been resident of this place for many years and was formerly engaged in business in this city. He had gently passed away to the great beyond. He served in the war of the rebellion in the 39th Iowa and was discharged for disability. The final services were under the direction of Rev. Dudly of the M. E. church. He leaves an aged widow and children to look forward to the future meeting where partings shall be no more.
