A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler, with Rev. Kyle Digmann celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Saturday. Thomas Raymond Britt was born June 11, 1940, in rural Fredericksburg, IA, the son of Francis Raymond and Rose (Wolfe) Britt. He attended the Kottke country school near Fredericksburg and in 1953, the Britt family moved to Lawler where he continued his education at Mt. Carmel Grade School and was a 1960 graduate of the Lawler High School. He was active in 4-H and won several honors for his cattle. Tom met his future wife, Bernice Panos at the former Legion Club in Lawler and the couple were united in marriage on November 14, 1964, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. To this union two children were born. Tom and Bernice farmed southeast of Lawler with his father and his brother, Jim. Tom also worked at the Lawler Hardware and did custom shelling for area farmers. He and Bernice moved into New Hampton in 1992 where he worked as a carpenter for both Kenny Miller and Jack Schulz. He also worked in Kolby’s Liquor Store from the day it opened until its closing. He will be remembered by his family for his wise quotes and for being a great provider. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Bernice; one daughter, Connie (Joe) Kieffer of Galena, IL; Tom “Butch” (Tina) Britt of New Hampton; four grandchildren, Michael (Nikki) Dreckman, Kirk (Luanna) Britt, all of New Hampton, Tabitha Frisch of Waterloo, Blake Britt of New Hampton; three great-grandchildren, Noah Britt, Kaleigh Britt and Brady Abben; two sisters, Rose Elaine Hanson of Hawkeye, Marjorie Megan of Cedar Falls; uncle, Jerry Britt of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Britt and his in-laws.
