He was born June 9, 1928 in Chicopee, KS the son of Charles E. and Alice (Ferns) Gilmore. He married Catherine Grant on February 23, 1957 in Scammon, KS. She survives of the home. He was born June 9, 1928 in Chicopee, KS the son of Charles E. and Alice (Ferns) Gilmore. He married Catherine Grant on February 23, 1957 in Scammon, KS. She survives of the home. He was in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. After the war he started working for Southwestern Bell as a technician for 38 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus member and also a member of the American Legion Post #64 in Pittsburg. Survivors include his wife Catherine of the home. Five sons, Gene Gilmore and wife Penny, Doug Gilmore and wife Lisa, Richard Gilmore and wife Paula, Tommy Gilmore and wife Melissa, all of Pittsburg, and Dan Gilmore and wife Julene of Chanute, KS; Three brothers: Leo, Pete and Danny A. Gilmore, all of Pittsburg; Three sisters, Mary Alice Zakowski, Frances Deckard of Pittsburg, and Rose Ella Wente of Springfield, MO; 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, John P., Fernan, Edward, Charles, and Joseph Gilmore. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 23, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg with Father Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Parish rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Church where family will receive friends following the rosary until 8 p.m. Condolences can be sent to www.bathnaylor.com. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund; these may be brought by or mailed to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 South Broadway, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
