| Description | : | Thomas Rowell Leavitt crossed the plains with his widowed mother, a brother, and four sisters. He was 16 years old and felt the responsibility of caring for the family after his father died. The older children had gone earlier. After their arrival in the Valley, the family lived in Duel Settlement Tooele, Santa Clara , and Wellsville . As he grew up, he was involved in many encounters with Indians and learned to speak their language and was respected by them.
