Funeral services were held in Central M. E. Church at three o'clock Saturday afternoon. Members of the U.D.C. met at his late home and escorted the body to the church where it was met by four Boy Scouts, two color bearers, each with a guard, who escorted the body up the aisle bearing aloft the United States and Confederate flags. Read More	Mathews Journal Thurs., July 4, 1929 p.4, c.2 THOMAS RUFUS WESTON On Friday, June 28th, 1929, Thomas Rufus Weston, Commander of Lane-Diggs Camp, U.C.V., died at 4:30 in the morning after a long and painful illness. Funeral services were held in Central M. E. Church at three o'clock Saturday afternoon. Members of the U.D.C. met at his late home and escorted the body to the church where it was met by four Boy Scouts, two color bearers, each with a guard, who escorted the body up the aisle bearing aloft the United States and Confederate flags. Immediately behind the family of the deceased followed the Daughters of the Confederacy with the president carrying the old tattered flag the Commander loved so well. His pastor, the Rev. H. J. Paylor had charge of the services and was assisted by the presiding elder of Rappahannock District, Rev. W. S. Deyerle, D.D. and Rev. Z. V. Johnston, of East Mathews Circuit. Rev. J. L. Kibler of West Mathews and Rev. H. F. Turner of North Mathews, were also in the chancel. The honorary pallbearers were Messrs Perry Williams, Rodney James, E. B. Hudgins, H. K. Taylor, H. K. Billups, Frank T. Weston, Swift Weston and J. Webb Matthews. The active pallbearers were Messrs Franklyn James, L. M. Callis, Richard Landon, John Miles, G. S. Marchant, Dr. J. W. D. Haynes. A choir of four voices sand "Shall We Meet Beyond the River?" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" in the church and "Asleep in Jesus," at the grave. Paul Brewer, American Legion bugler, sounded "Taps" at the close of the service at the grave. Mr. Weston was born April 21, 1848. he is survived by four children, T. G. Weston, of New Haven, Conn., Rev. Harry L. Weston, of the Virginia Conference stationed at Burkeville, Va., Mrs. H. K. Billups, of Motorun and Miss Marion Weston who lived with her father. ---------------------------- Mathews Light Arty.
