Dyer, Chas. E. Rogers, I.N. Stotts, A.M. Shaeffer, S.G. Gibbons and Joshua Stumbo. A prayer services only was held at the grave in Linwood Park cemetery, west. Thomas Samuel Gifford was born in Greencastle, Indiana, August 11, 1839, died at his home, 1413 Boone street, Boone, January 1, 1914, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 20 days. He enlisted in Co. B. 43rd Indiana regiment, as a private, also corporal of Co. B. First Mississippi marine brigade. After serving three years and three months he was honorably discharged and returned to his home at Greencastle. He was a member of the G.A.R., J.G. Miller Post, No. 67, at the time of his death. August 19, 1869, he was married to Lutisha Standley at Tillmore, Indiana. In the spring of 1876 they moved to Sullivan county, Missouri, remaining there two years, coming to Boone, where he and family have since made their home. To this union were born six children, all of whom were at his bedside during his last illness, except Earl, who passed away in 1888, at the age of fourteen years. He leaves beside his widow, five children, Claude, Omer, Alva, Theodore, one daughter, Mrs. Mae Zenor, and three grandchildren, two sisters in Kansas and one brother at the home place in Indiana. He united with the Christian church thirty seven years ago and always has been a faithful member, never failing to attend the services of the church when health permitted him to be there.
