Description	:	--------------------------- Thomas Shannon was born on the 16th of November, 1832 in what was then called Mill Creek in Coshocton County, Ohio, the son of John M. & Jane H. (Johnston) Shannon, who had moved to Mill Creek in 1826. Thomas received a strict Presbyterian up-bringing on a large farm shared with eleven or more other brothers, sisters and many other family relations. At this time the Shannon family was literally huge, direct relatives numbering in the hundreds. Read More	--------------------------- Thomas Shannon was born on the 16th of November, 1832 in what was then called Mill Creek in Coshocton County, Ohio, the son of John M. & Jane H. (Johnston) Shannon, who had moved to Mill Creek in 1826. Thomas received a strict Presbyterian up-bringing on a large farm shared with eleven or more other brothers, sisters and many other family relations. At this time the Shannon family was literally huge, direct relatives numbering in the hundreds. The Shannon family is generally a very talented bunch, taming the wilds and adapting to about any conditions. They had many musicians, artists, inventors, builders, teachers, as well as their fair share of very respected farmers and business merchants in their history. They were almost always very religious as many other families were at the time and left a serious wealth of information at the churches near where they lived. During the Civil War, brothers, William B. and Nathan decided to fight and volunteered together, joining and assigned to Company H, 51st O.V.I. William B. Shannon was killed on the 27th of June, 1864 (US Vet's A. records recorded: 18 June, 1864) at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain near Atlanta in Cobb County, Georgia. His brother, Nathan served as a Private first, and then Corporal finally, in the Civil War in Company H of the 51st Regiment of the Ohio volunteer Infantry. He joined on October 4, 1861 and left Company H on October 3, 1865. Nathan was wounded in the Battle of Stone's River in the Winter of 1862/1863 at Murfreesboro. Tennessee. He survived on and had 5 children, till Dec. 1878, dying at a young age of forty-two. What happened for the other six brothers during the Civil War is unknown to me at this time. TJD2014 Thomas Shannon married Delilah Endsley on the 4th of December, 1856 in Coshocton County, Ohio and had several children; James H 1857, Jane Crissie 1860, Hattie A 1862, Cynthia A 1869, John N 1872, Grace M 1874. ------------------------------
