Read More	Adams County Free Press (Corning, IA) 07 AUG 1958 Page 2, Column 5 THOMAS SMART Thomas Smart, son of Samuel and Isabell Smart was born on a farm six miles north of Prescott in Adams County on April 20, 1880, and departed this life at the Robison Nursing Home in Creston, Iowa on July 29, 1958, at the age of 78 years, 3 months, and 9 days. In 1936 he was united in marriage to Ethel Bye at Osceola, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1957. One step-son Harold Bye, also preceded him in death. Tommy was the youngest son of a family of nine children; six brothers, Grant, Sammy, Willie, John, Dryden, Arthur, and two sisters, Elizabeth and Agnes. All have preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing several nieces and nephews and also a host of friends. Tommy spent most of his life in and near Orient and Creston, Iowa, in business of buying horses for eastern markets. It was in this capacity that he was known to many people in this vicinity. Mr. Smart was well known and well liked in many communities in this vicinity. His winning smile, kindly manner marked him as a friend to everyone he met. During his long stay in the Nursing Home he was constantly bright and cheerful and a joy to those around him. He was uncomplaining with a wonderful faculty for brightening the spirits of all with whom he come in contact. We will miss him in this community but was are sure that like the writer of Book of Job "he came to a ripe old age like a shock of grain, and has been garnered to the heavenly fold" This is the lot of man; may we thank God for His wise providence even in this host of sorrow and death. Funeral service were held Thursday, July 31, at 2: p.m. at the Coen Home for Funeral in Creston, by Rev. Dennis Manyon. Pall Bearers were Pearl Parhenham, Ray Speer, Kenneth Smart, Arthur Smart, Sammy Smart and Forest Poison. Burial was in the cemetery at Clearfield, Iowa.
