Read More	The Emporia Weekly Gazette, 10 Dec 1903, Thur DEATH OF THOMAS TELFER Thomas Telfer died at the home of his son near Reading last Saturday and was buried Monday afternoon. Grandpa Telfer, as he was familiarly called, was born in Lamplum, in Haddingstonshire, Scotland, about eighty years ago and came with his family and settled in Lyon county in 1882. Since the death of his wife about ten years ago he has lived with his son, Peter Telfer, at his home near Reading. Until about a year ago Mr. Telfer was a man of remarkable energy and vigor for his years, but at that time he was suddenly stricken with apralysis (sic), and has been bedridden since, although ministered and cared for by his children with the tenderest solicitude until death. Mr. Telfer was buried at Reading and the funeral services conducted by the Rev. Christie from the church in that town. Services were so largely attended by his neighbors and friends, that the church was unable to contain them. Mr. Telfer left seven children to mourn the loss of a kind, indulgent parent, John, Jane, Frank, and Peter Telfer, Mrs. Ellen Meldren, Mrs. Margaret Begby, and Mrs. Alice Sword, all but two of whom were able to be at their father's funeral. How true in this case in the promise of holy writ which says, "He shall come to his grave full of years, even as a shock of corn fit for the garner."
