Read More	Choteau Acantha (MT), 22 Jan 1942 Tom Groot, 74, Passed Away Here Sunday Funeral services will be held here this Thursday afternoon, Jan. 22, for Tom Groot, 74, who passed away at the home of his youngest daughter, Mrs. John Richem, last Sunday. The deceased, who had been a resident of Teton county for over 35 years, was well known to local residents and his passing came as a sudden shock to both friends and relatives. Burial will be in Choteau cemetery. His daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McGhan, of Grants Pass, Oregon, will attend the funeral. Mr. Groot, who was a familiar figure on the streets of Choteau during the past years, was born in Shellinkhout, North Holland, Netherlands. As a boy in Holland he lived with his parents who owned a small dairy. In 1897 he came to the United States, going to Ontario, Oregon, where he worked on farms until the spring of 1905, when he was married and came to Teton county in April of that year. He lived on the Burton Bench until four years ago when he moved to Choteau to make his home with his daughters. Mr. Groot, when moving to Teton county, located on a farm on the Burton Bench. He was married in February 1905 to Jennie Oldenberg, who preceded him in death in November of 1934. Survivors are six daughters and four sons: Mrs. May Richem, Mrs. Grace Jacobs, Mrs. Irene Brown, Mrs. Marie Enderson, Mrs. Katherine Richem, all of Choteau, and Mrs. Lucille McGhan, of Grants Pass, Ore.; John Groot, Bernard Groot, Thomas Groot and William Groot, all of Choteau. Other survivors are five half brothers living in the Netherlands, and one half-sister and brother who still live on the old home place.
