Read More	Thomas Kieffer January 3, 1932 - September 24, 2017 Ogden, Iowa Tom Kieffer was born in Waverly on January 3, 1932, the son of Herman and Mary (Holland) Kieffer. He passed away peacefully with his family at his side on September 24, 2017, at the age of 85. He attended West Point and Iowa State Teachers College before joining the U. S. Navy in 1950. He served with the Navy during the Korean War in the Pacific on various ships. He continued in the Naval Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. He returned to college at Iowa State College and completed a Masters Degree with major work in Industrial Technology and General Engineering. Tom and Dorothy Heman were married on September 15, 1956, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dedham. They celebrated nearly 58 years together before Dorothy's passing in 2014. He was an industrial technology, mathematics and physics teacher in at the Ogden High School for 38 years. He saw all seven of his children graduate from Ogden High School. He was instrumental in starting the Ogden Student Loan Foundation in 1964 that continues to assist Ogden students with college costs. For many years, he was associated with the Kieffer Manufacturing Company in woodworking and construction. He and his six sons worked together on many projects in the Ogden area. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association; Veterans of Foreign Wars; ISU Alumni Association and the Knights of Columbus. Tom is survived by six of his children: Mary Jo (Tom) Hromatka, Urbandale; Bob (Lisa) of Ogden; Jim (Linda) of Spencer; Tom (Michelle Laughman) of Indianola; Steve (Traci) of Ogden; and Don (Alison) of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; Fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in 2014, son Bill in 2016, parents and one brother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Westhaven Community in Boone where Tom was given wonderful care the last few months of his life.
