Funeral services were held at the Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Officiating was the Rev T S Tisdale acting Pastor of Prince George Winyah Protestant Episcopal Church. Burial was in Prince George Winyah Protestant Episcopal Churchyard. Mr Higgins was born in Fairfield County near Chester August 20 1884 and was a son of the late James M Higgins and the late Sarah Rawls Higgins. He was educated in the schools of that area and worked in Columbia prior to moving to Georgetown a number of years ago to accept a position with the old Atlantic Coast Lumber Corp. For a number of years he operated a men's furnishing store in Georgetown until a fire destroyed the store in 1930. For some years he has been an assistant manager of several local hotels and motels. He was a member of Winyah Lodge No 40 Ancient Free Masons. Surviving are his widow the former Miss Janie Carraway of Georgetown; a daughter Mrs. William N Smith of Winder Ga two grandsons; four sisters Mrs J D Bankhead of Chester, Mrs W G McIlwain of Elloree, Mrs J A McCrory of Columbia and Mrs B S Bankhead of Blackstock and a number of nieces and nephews.
