Allen, one of the most trusted and popular engineers on the Seaboard Air Line system, died yesterday morning at 10 o'clock at his residence on north Saunders Street. For several months Mr. Allen has been in bad health and his death was not unexpected. The deceased, who was 52 years old, was the son of the late Mr. Christopher Allen, for years one of Raleigh's most popular engineers. His wife, who was Miss Alston, of Halifax county, and four children survive him. Mr. Allen also leaves three sisters and three brothers. They are Mrs. M.P. Alston of Portsmouth, Va.; Mrs. Goodloe, of Scotland Neck; Mrs. T. W. Tillery of Edenton. His brothers are Mr. Charles S. Allen of Raleigh; Mr. Lynn Allen of Portsmouth; and Mrs. Paul Allen of Raleigh. Mr. Allen has been in service of the Seaboard as an engineer since 1871. He was one of the most valued employees of the road and commanded the confidence and high regard of his superiors and associates. His fidelity, strong character, and amiability had made for him strong friends here and everywhere, who sincerely mourn his death. The funeral service will be held from the Presbyterian church at 11 o'clock this morning. The News and Observer - Saturday morning, October 19, 1901 At 11 o'clock yesterday morning the funeral of the late Thomas W. Allen was held from the Presbyterian church, Rev. Eugene Daniel, D. D., officiating. There was a large attendance of sorrowing relatives and friends and the floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. The interment was in Oakwood cemetery. The pall-bearers were Messrs. J. T. Pullen, W. S. Primrose, S. W. Whiting, J. W. M. Allen, William Faison, G. M. Lassater, E. H. Vaughn and Thos. Adams.
