Thomas Woodford Marr was born near Columbus, Bartholomew county (sic), Ind. February 20, 1843, and died at the home of his son, J. T. Mar (sic),. Oak, Neb., April 17, 1920, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 2 days. Mr. Mar (sic) had an unusual misfortune in the very beginning of life's pilgrimage. His father died a few weeks before he was born and and his mother died six weeks after his birth, leaving him and four brothers and two sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Woodford Mar (sic), an uncle and aunt, took Thomas Iinto their home and assumed his parental care. In the fall of 1843, they moved from Indiana to Ainsworth, Iowa, where he grew up to manhood. He was happily married to Miss Charlotte Sarah Nicholson and to this home was born one son, James Thomas Mar (sic), in the winter of 1865-66. Mr. Mar and his wife joined the United Brethren church (sic) at Ainsworth, Iowa, and have ever lived a consistent Christian life. Mr. Mar (sic) and family moved to Nuckolls county (sic), Nebraska, near Oak in 1884, where they have since made their home excepting about eleven months spent in Missouri. He leaves to mourn his death, one brother, William Mar (sic) of Ainsworth, Iowa, now 90 years, and because of his Infirmity could not be present. One son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Mar (sic); three- grandsons, Jay W., Jessie D., and Harry H. Mar (sic). Seven great grandchildren, besides other relatives and many neighbors and friends. He was generally known as Uncle Tommy, a friend and neighbor to all. ====================== The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, April 22, 1920; pg. 2 NORA LOCALS Rev. Bates conducted the funeral of Uncle Tommy Marr, near Oak, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. Interment at Mt. Zion.
