Read More	Flandreau Newspaper May 13, 1921: Thor Gulbranson Called by Death; Thor Gulbranson a Pioneer of Moody County since 1878, passed away at Madison on May 13, 1921. The funeral was held Monday at noon from the Clare Church, Rev. Austin of the Lutheran Church officiating. The remains were shipped from Madison here Monday Morning. Thor Gulbranson was born in Norway June 2, 1845, and came to America in 1865, settling first in Houston County, Minnesota. he moved to Moody County in 1878 and homesteaded northwest of town. He went to Madison in February of this year and remained there until his death. Mr. Gulbranson was respected and esteemed by a large circle of friends made during his long residence in this county. Besides his widow, he leaves to mourn his departure seven sons, six daughters, 35 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The sons are Carl of Lake Preston, Otto and Tilman of Madison, Alfred, John, Conrad, and Edwin of this county. The daughters are Mrs. Inga Stewart of Oelwein, Iowa: Mrs. L. Turner of Garden City, S.D.; Mrs. Clara Granflatten of Madison; Mrs. Henry Johnson, Mrs. Harold Headrick, and Mrs. Roy Headrick, all of this county. Flandreau Newspaper May 19, 1921: Died in Madison; Mr. Thor Gulbranson, for many years a resident of Riverview Township, passed away at his home in Madison Friday Morning, the cause of death being tuberculosis from which he suffered the past year or two. Besides his widow he leaves seven sons and six daughters. Had he lived until June 2nd he would have been 76 years old. Deceased was born in Norway and came to this country in 1865. In 1878 he settled on a homestead in Riverview and made his home there until a year ago when he moved to Madison to secure medical attention. The remains were shipped here Monday and services were conducted at the Clare Township Lutheran Church by Rev. Austin of Colman. Interment was made in the cemetery near there.
