Read More	A Useful Life Ended Thor Hermanson Dies at His Old Home in Edison Township After an Illness which dates back about two years, Thor Hermanson, an old and respected resident of Edison Township, died at his home at four o'clock last Tuesday morning, aged 64 years and 31 days. Mr. Hermanson had always enjoyed the most robust health up to two years ago, when he was attacked by what was supposed to be a combination of dropsy and asthma, though the cause of his death was given as Bright's disease of the kidneys. Mr. Hermanson was born in Norway and lived there until he was forty-five years of age, when he came to America and settled near Ridgeway, in Winnesheik County, Iowa, where he resided until the spring of 1873, when he removed his family to the then Territory of Dakota, the journey being made with an ox team and "prairie schooner," which, beside a couple of cows and a small quantity of household furniture, etc., represented practically his entire earthly possessions. He at once made the homestead entry in Edison Township, which he occupied till his death. He was a hard-working man, a good farmer and manager, and in the thirty-one years of his residence here had acquired a competency. The deceased is survived by five daughters and a son, namely: Caroline, Hansina, Carrie, Lena, Carl and Christina, two of the daughters being married to Peder and Pedro Hattlestad, prosperous farmers of Edison Township, and two others married and living in Calmar, Iowa, while the son Carl and the youngest daughter, Christina, are living on the homestead. Mr. Hermanson was a man who studiously fought shy of legal entanglements, and to avoid any possible disputes over the division of his property after his death, had made a will in which he bequeathed to his only son the homestead, while to each of the other children he left $1,000 cash. Mr. Hermanson was a man of many sterling qualities – an affectionate husband, a kind and indulgent father, an obliging and companionable neighbor, and like all men against whose name such words of praise could truthfully be written, he had hosts of friends who sincerely mourn his death. The funeral services, which were conducted by Rev. Moe, of Dell Rapids, took place this afternoon at the Norway church of United Lutheran Society, in Edison Township, the interment being made in the church cemetery near by. ----------------------------------------- Land, where Norway Lutheran Church could be seen and the bell could be heard for miles, was donated by Thor and John Hermanson. The church was dedicatd on May 18, 1890. The church building was detroyed by fire in 1971. Only the bell and the cemetery remain as a testment to the faith of our pioneer ancestors.
