Thora died December 4, 1981 at Glendeen Nursing Home in Billings, Mt. Thora Bakken was born January 29, 1888 in Oslo, Norway the daughter of Thor and Anna Lovstad. She moved to the United States settling in Leeds, ND, where she lived until 1906 when she moved to Crane, Mont., where she homesteaded. In April of 1910 she united in marriage to Martin Bakken in Sidney. They made their home on a farm southeast of Sidney where they lived until 1940 when they moved into Sidney. They lived in Sidney until February of 1953 when her husband died. Thora had remained a resident of Sidney until 1979 when she broke her hip and became a resident of Glendeen Nursing Home in Billings where she has lived since. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed crocheting and working with flowers. Surviving her are one daughter, Mrs. Harry(Carmen)Melnik of Los Angeles, Cal., one son, Melvin, Sidney; 10 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ted Bakken, Marty Bakken, Leonard Bakken, Todd Albright, Emil Fink and Elmer Mastvelton. Honorary pallbearers were all of her friends and relatives. Music selections were congregational hymns. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
