Description	:	A memorial service for Thorvald Straabe, 74, of Churchs Ferry was held Sat. at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Churchs Ferry. Interment was in the Leeds Lutheran Cemetery. He died Jan. 4, 1993 at the Towner County Memorial Hospital in Cando. Rev. Don Olson officiated. Organists were Dorothy Stuberg & Doris Michaels. Special music was provided by Kenneth Stuberg. Pallbearers were Tyrone, Reid, Miles, Kyle, & Ryan Straabe, Corey Copeland, Chris Lingen & Lance Straabe. Thorvald S. Straabe was born Jan. 5, 1918 in Springfield Township of Towner County to Hans & Hilda Bod Straabe. He was raised & attended a country school in Springfield Township of Towner County. He worked on the family farm until 1942 when he purchased a farm in the Leeds area. He married Maxine Mickelson Feb. 20, 1941 at Churchs Ferry. He continued to farm & do carpentry work until retiring in 1967. He entered Resthaven Health Care Center in Cando in April of 1990 & was admitted to the Towner County Memorial Hospital in Cando on Nov. 28, 1992. He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Devils Lake. Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of Churchs Ferry; 8 sons, Tyrone, Craig, Reid, Hal, Barry, Miles, Kyle & Ryan Straabe; 7 daughters, Judy Tomkins, JoAnn Copeland, Diane Straabe, Vicki Lingen, Candace Stave, Dawn Christenson & Jodi Straabe; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Victor of Cando; & a sister, Helen Carlson of Alexandria, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents & a son, David.
