Description	:	Thressa Duart was born to Margaret and Thomas Lincoln Duart on Sept. 29, 1886 at Schaller. On March 14, 1912 Thressa was married to Thomas J. Orton at Schaller. The couple farmed 160 acres, 10 miles from Sac City, with plows and drags. Later the family moved to Auburn where they farmed 320 acres. At Emmetsburg the family owned a 240 acre farm. Thomas passed away on June 24, 1921. Mrs. Orton continued to farm until March of 1945 when she moved to Schaller. Mrs. Orton taught school for seven years in Sac and Ida County. Thressa enioyed making quilts and pillow tops, gardening and crossword puzzles. In her later years, she enjoyed reading and wrote many letters and notes to her friends. Mrs. Orton received a gold WSCS pin from the United Methodist church of which she was a member. In Nov. 1972 she received a 50 year membership pin from the Royal Neighbors. On July 12, 1960, Thressa Orton passed away at the age of 93 at the Buena Vista County hospital. At the time of her death, Mrs. Orton was the oldest lady to be living in Schaller who had also been born there. Thressa's life spanned the Inauguration of 18 Presidents beginning with Grover Cleveland at age two. Preceding her in death was her brother, William H Duart, April 14, 1944, and a sister, Mrs. Phyllis Ricker, Nov 4, 1947. She is survived by three nieces, Mrs. Madge Izer, Overland Park, Kan. Mrs. Gladys Heffleflnger, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Eleanor Galbreath, Lake View; two nephews, Clyde W. Ricker, Lakewood. Colo., and Wilbur C. Orton, Emmetsburg, six great nephews, three great-great nephews and four great great nieces, cousins, Mrs. Bernen Freese and Mrs. Herman Roeder, Schaller, and Mrs. Raymond Eckerman and William Mahaffy, Sioux City, and many other friends and relatives. Interment was in Schaller cemetery under the direction of Farber and Otteman Funeral Home, Sac City. (Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune, 7-30-1980)
