Read More	The News and Courier, Charleston, SC, Saturday, May 17, 1941: RUNAWAY TRUCK ACCIDENT FATAL Young Man Killed Instantly in Mishap Near Santee Power House Moncks Corner, May 16--Special: Timothy Moyd, twenty-four years old, truck driver for the Atlantic Dredging company, was instantly killed at 6 o'clock this morning when his truck rolled down an embankment between highway 52 and the Santee-Cooper power house. Moyd had started to work and stopped his truck to get fuel oil. He went into the door of the shop, it was reported, to get a soft drink and as he came out saw that his truck had started to roll off the embankment. He ran to attempt to stop it. Patrolman Hilton, who was the only eye witness, said he called to him to leave the truck, but before he could be heard the truck had toppled over and Moyd as struck. His neck was broken. Coroner Lawton Murray, following his investigation of the mishap, said no inquest would be necessary. The coroner said as Moyd jumped on the running board, the truck rolled over the embankment and a wooding siding gave way to a heavy load of dirt. The siding struck the victim on the head. Moyd had been employed with the Atlantic company less than a month. He was working on the company's contract for construction of a railroad trestle at the main A. C. L. line near the Pinopolis dam site. The company also holds a contract for work on the Santee-Cooper project tail canal in that area. Moyd was the son of Evander Moyd [note: William Kay Vanderbilt Moyd] of Jamestown. Surviving are his parents and a young wife to whom he had been married only a few months.
