Rev. Eugene Schipper officiated at the services. Tobias Hanken, age 92, of Monticello, died Sunday afternoon, July 9, 1995at the Manor Care Center, Dubuque, following an illness of several weeks. Tobias Hanken was born March 4, 1903 at Monticello, Iowa. He was the son of Herman and Mary Tobiason Hanken. He received his education in the rural schools near his home. Tobias Hanken and Martha K. Bennen were married March 17, 1928 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The couple made their home in the Monticello community where Tobe operated a dairy business. In 1948 they started farming near Wyoming, Iowa and later on the Dannemann farm in Wayne Township. They moved to their present farm in 1952. Tobe retired from active farming in 1982. Martha preceded him in death on October 6, 1980. Tobias was a member of the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. Tobe also served on the Monticello Volunteer fire Department for many years. He was also an avid bowler. Tobias is survived by a son Harry Hanken, a daughter-n-law, Margie Hanken and a sister-in-law, Ruth Portewig, all of Monticello, 3 granddaughters, Mary Main, Cindy Dawson and Julie Humphrey and 4 great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents his wife, Martha and a son Gene April 17, 1990.
