Tom was born on March 21, 1950, in Norfolk, the son of Lester and Alece (Mauk) Scheer. He was raised in Norfolk and graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in 1969. He continued his education at Wayne State. Following his education, Tom returned to Norfolk and managed Norfolk Auto Supply. On August 7, 1976, Tom married Doris Wagner. They raised two children, Nicholas and Anna. In addition to Norfolk Auto Supply, Tom had interests in agro business and the grocery industry. Tom enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and especially NASCAR. He was always passionate about everything that he did. However his greatest passion was for his family especially the roll of Papa to his twin granddaughters, Abby and Sophia. Many of his friends would attest that he loved to live life to the fullest.
