Description	:	Tom Jacobs Tommy Francis Jacobs, 68, of 700 W Alta Vista, Ottumwa, died July 9, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, following a brief illness. He was born September 19, 1949 to Frank M. and Ruth Doris Woodrow Jacobs and he grew up on the family farm south of Hedrick. Read More	Tom Jacobs Tommy Francis Jacobs, 68, of 700 W Alta Vista, Ottumwa, died July 9, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, following a brief illness. He was born September 19, 1949 to Frank M. and Ruth Doris Woodrow Jacobs and he grew up on the family farm south of Hedrick. Farming had been a big part of his life and Tom greatly admired his dad and how he taught him to farm. Tom married Joan Clingman Tomlin on August 19, 1982 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Although the couple later divorced, they remained close friends and he was a great father to both of their girls. A 1967 graduate of Pekin High School, Tom had served on the Hedrick Volunteer Fire Department and was a good supporter of that community. Coffee with the guys was a daily ritual and Tom loved to 'stir the pot' to encourage some lively conversation by taking an unpopular stance on various topics, whether it be Obama, Trump, the Hawkeyes, or any number of other subjects. For many years, Tom worked as a sales representative for Creech Agricultural Structures, and most recently was employed by Sully Farm Supply. He was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation. Tom is survived by his daughters, Hannah (partner, Taryn) Jacobs of Des Moines and Jen Jeschke of Carroll, and their mother, Jo Jacobs of Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Austin, Will and Avery Jeschke. Other survivors include a brother, Paul (Janet) Jacobs of Hedrick; two sisters, Vicki (Frank) David of Crescent Springs, KY and Muriel (Stephen) Greiner of Sigourney, and several nieces and nephews. His memory is also honored by a number of good friends, including a close buddy, Rex Heisdorffer. Tom was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home. The family will be present from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday to greet friends. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Bill Hornback officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Private inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation or the Hedrick Volunteer Fire Department. Published on July 11, 2018
