Travis William Chevallier, Jr. was born in Hammond, Louisiana, November 21, 1956 to Laura and Travis Chevallier, Sr. joining his sisters, Martha Linn and Tracy Elizabeth. Travis William Chevallier, Jr. was born in Hammond, Louisiana, November 21, 1956 to Laura and Travis Chevallier, Sr. joining his sisters, Martha Linn and Tracy Elizabeth. Travis's family lived in Louisiana, Oregon and Montana when he was a young man. He attended school in Fishtail, Worden and Livingston, Montana. He was a member of Grace Methodist Church. He was active at Park High School in Livingston, Montana, both academically and in sports, graduating as the class salutatorian in 1975. Travis was a semi finalist for the National Merit Scholarship. He worked as a lifeguard at the Livingston City Pool during the summers when he was in High School. He was awarded the Boy Scouts of America's highest award, Eagle Scout, along with some of his life long friends. Travis spent his college years working in Yellowstone National Park during the summer. Travis received both his undergraduate and Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Montana State University, Bozeman, Montana from 1975-1980. Travis joined ROTC at MSU in pursuit of becoming a pilot. He was commissioned as an officer in USAF in 1980 and finished his Master's Degree while he waited for a pilot slot. He received his Helicopter Pilot Training at Fort Rucker, Alabama in December 1981. Travis was stationed at FE Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY, from 1981-1986. Travis served in the Air Rescue organization while at FE Warren. Travis was selected as a Distinguished Graduate in the Squadron Officer School Program ranking in the top 7% in a class of 798 of his peers. Travis and Maggie's daughter, Keely Marie, was born while they were stationed at F.E. Warren AFB. He was trained and qualified in fixed wing at Randolph Air Force Base, in San Antonio, TX from 1986-87. While stationed at Randolph, John Travis, their son, joined the family. Travis started test pilot training in July of 1987 at Patuxent Naval Air Station in Patuxent River, Maryland, flying 151 hours in 19 aircraft types. He graduated TPS in June 1988. The Chevallier family's next station was at Edwards Air Force Base, CA 1988-1991, where he was assigned to 6512th Test Squadron and served as the Executive Officer. Travis completed Command and Staff College in April 1993. He was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas from 1991 until 2001. Travis served as Commander Joint Test Force; Chief HH-60 G Tactics and Test; and Chief HH-60G Division. During his service as a USAF officer, Travis received the AF Achievement Medal, AF Commendation Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, AF Longevity Service Award, AF Training Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, Small Arms Expert Markmanship Ribbon, AF Outstanding Unit Award and Meritorious Unit Citation. He retired from active duty on July 31, 2001 as LT COLONEL USAF. After retiring from active duty, Travis worked for Modern Technology Solutions as a principal engineer and experimental test pilot until the time of his death. Travis is preceded in death by his parents Laura Haugan Chevallier and Travis William Chevallier, Sr., former long time residents of Livingston, MT. Survivors include his daughter, Major Keely Chevallier, MD USAF and son, John Travis Chevallier of Gardnerville, NV. He is also survived by sisters: Martha (Larry) Farnes of Eagle, Idaho and Tracy Walton of Park City, Utah; many nieces, nephews, friends and Cheryl Littleton. Travis had two call signs in his career: Coyote and "Chevy". The stories of acquiring those names and many others will continue to warm our hearts. As both a scientist and an engineer, his world consisted of many cold hard facts yet the same guy spent time in Peru helping to secure a safe place for orphans with his buddy, "Spock." Only time will tell of the many lives that Travis has touched over his 61 years of life on this earth. He was a loving father and brother, a great pilot, a great mentor and a great friend! If he would share a final message, it might be: Fly safe, have fun, and love the people in your life. Travis's ashes will be interned beside his Mother and Father at Rosebud Cemetery near Absarokee, MT on June 15, 2019 @ 11:00 am. This will be followed by lunch at the Fishtail Community Center near Travis's first Montana home.
