Read More	CAR WRECK CARRIED BLOCK BY FAST TRAIN Mother and 3 Children Die in Crash; Another Child Critically Hurt Hampton -- Mrs. Dale Barney, 29, and 3 of her 6 children were killed when their car collided with the northbound Rock Island Rocket here late Friday afternoon. The mother and children, who, with the husband and father moved to Hampton recently from a farm near Chapin, were in route to the downtown district 3 blocks north of the depot. So far as could be learned by officers there were no witnesses to the accident When taken to the hospital, Shirley Anne was suffering from a leg fracture and severe shock. Sheriff Charles Nolte investigated the crash and said he found the train hit the car squarely in the middle and carried it about a block. The only person close enough to hear the crash, the sheriff said, was a man whose name the sheriff did not get and who knew nothing of the mishap until he heard the noise. Rock Island officials said the Rocket was not damaged and continued on Its northward way after the conductor investigated the accident. They said they could give no explanation that the weather was clear and calm and there was some snow on the ground. Before her marriage Mrs. Barney was Trella Green, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Green of Chapin. Mr. Barney is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Cullen Barney of Chapin. The bodies of the victims were taken to the Green funeral home at Hampton, which is operated by Ray Green, an uncle of Mrs. Barney. The Barney family lived on an acreage at the northwest edge of Hampton. The Rocket was known as No, 508, due at Hampton at 4:32 p. m., in charge of Conductor Hasler Henry O'Neill was engineer. Sheriff Nolte said the car was badly smashed with the motor torn from the chassis and other parts strewn along the right of way. The body of one child was found in the wrecked automobile and another was lying near the wreckage, the sheriff said. He said Mrs. Barney and another child were thrown out of the car. Sheriff Nolte said an inquest was to be held later in the day, but it did not appear likely that witnesses to the crash could be found. The 2 children of the Barney who were not in the car at the time of the crash were Darrel 5 and Marco Ward 1. Mrs. Barney was born Oct. 23, 1915, at Alexander and lived in Franklin County all her life. She was married to Mr. Barney at Chicago. Besides the children she is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Ray Letzering, Sheffield; Robert Green, Garfield Heights. Ohio: Lindell Green, Hampton; Darren Green, with the army in Holland: James Green in the navy and Pearl Green who lives her parents. Funeral arrangements had not been completed late Saturday morning.
