She passed away Monday, September 3, 2012, in Alexandria after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She died surrounded by her loving family. Tressie grew up and raised a family in the Hicks/Simpson area. Always good with her hands, she worked as a seamstress and homemaker, often sewing and altering clothes for family and friends. She loved making things by hand and her talents extended to embroidery and quilting, as well as sewing. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and a faithful christian. She was a life-long member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities over the years. This year, Mrs. Miller and her husband, were recognized by Louisiana Family Forum as one of the longest married couples residing in Louisiana. This award resulted in the couple being featured on the Family Forum website and newsletter. Thrilled with the award, Mrs. Miller attributed faith and hard work to her long lasting marriage. She is survived by her husband of 72½ years of Hicks; two sons and daughters-in-law; daughter and son-in-law of Leesville; two brothers and one sister-in-law; sister and brother-in-law of Tampa, Florida; eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Services were under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
