Mrs. Monk was born on October 1, 1924, in Stille, LA and passed away on May 5, 2019 in LaCamp, LA at the age of 94. She was known to many people as “Nanny” and spent much of her life as a caregiver. Her motto throughout her life was based on the scripture from I Corinthians 13:13....“But the greatest of these is love.” She lived her life in a way that showed the ones around her that love is the key. Nanny was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish and never met a stranger. Once you met her, you couldn’t help but love her, and she showed her love in many ways as when she would make “Nanny Rolls” for her friends and neighbors. Nanny was also known for her homemade biscuits and tomato gravy. For forty years, she and her husband, Lee Roy Monk, owned and operated LaCamp Grocery. Nanny was the rock of her family and her presence will be greatly missed not only by her family, but by her entire community as well. Mrs. Monk was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Monk; parents, Charley and Olive Miller; son, Rodney Monk; grandchild, Jeff Smith; great-grandchild, Casey Powell; sisters, Venson Monk and Myrtle Gallion; brothers, Roark Miller and Harold Miller. Left to cherish her memory are; daughter, Patricia Monk Akins (Billy); brother, Dewey Miller; daughter-in-law, Glenda Monk; grandchildren, Letitia Akins Dees (David), Melissa Akins Powell (Rickey), Jessica Monk Page (Brandon), and Brenda Webb; great-grandchildren, Danielle Bailey Zander (David), Chelsey Newnham Burns (Jared), Haleigh Newnham (Christian), Chase Powell (Michael), Blake Powell, Trey Norris, Natalie Norris, Nathaniel Page, Gat-lynn Webb (Jessica), Preston Webb, Meghan Webb, Keleigh Smith, and Zach Smith; great-great-grandchildren, Annissa Zander, Jenna Zander, Cruz Watson, Knox Burns, Landon Webb, Braxton Webb, and Madison Webb; special caregiver, Dixie Busby; bonus sons, Billy Akins and Shawn Waggoner, and a host of extended family. The family of Mrs. Monk extends a special "thank you" to St. Joseph Hospice for their loving, attentive care. Pallbearers were David Dees, Rickey Powell, David Zander, Jared Burns, Chase Powell, and Blake Powell. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Akins, Jimmie Dale Monk, Norman Spurgeon, Larry Goodwin, Larry Burns, John Burns, and Richard Allen.
