Description	:	CENTRAL CITY -- Trueman H. Merritt, 80, of Central City, formerly of Omaha, died at the Grand Island Veterans Home on Saturday, July 28, 2012. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City, with Sister Mary Arie officiating. Burial will be in the Bureau Cemetery at Pierce Chapel near Clarks, with full military rites. Mr. Merritt was born on July 22, 1932, at Walnut to Trueman H. and Phoebe M. (Webb) Merritt. Survivors of his immediate family include his wife, Ginger of Central City; a son, Trueman Merritt of Omaha; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Marty Burruss of Clarks; and a sister, Iola Volquardsen of Battle Creek. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Megan and Amanda Burruss; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Beck of Central City and Mary Blair of Arkansas; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Marwyn and Joanne Rogers of Hordville. Trueman grew up in the Verdigre area. He graduated from Verdigre High School and completed schooling for auto mechanics. On April 15, 1952, Trueman entered the U.S. Navy, served on the USS Pittsburgh and was honorably discharged on April 6, 1956. Trueman was united in marriage to Virginia "Ginger" E. Rogers on Jan. 27, 1962, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They made their home in Omaha, where Trueman was a partner in Zenith-Nixon Carburetor Company. Trueman retired in 1994 and they moved to Central City to live in 2001. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Central City and was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed gardening, camping, Huskers football, and Omaha Royals and Chicago Cubs baseball. Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Rose Goedeker.
