Description	:	Truman was the son of Silas Roe and Mary Barber who emigrated to Illinois in the early 1840's and were natives of New York state. Truman was one of nine children which included: Daniel, Mary, Jerusha, Pluma, Elizabeth, Martin, Laura and Martha. Truman served in the Civil War as a Private in Compant D, 1st Illinois Cavalry. He enlisted for a three year term on April 23, 1861 in Knoxville and reported for duty on July 15, 1861 in Quincy, Illinois. He enlisted for a three year term on April 23, 1861 in Knoxville and reported for duty on July 15, 1861 in Quincy, Illinois. Truman was involved in probably just one major engagement which was the persuit of General Price in Missouri. After being captured by General Price, their Cavalry unit was sent home on parole. Due to a mistake in the wording on their parole by General Price, re-enlistment was thought to be not in violation of their release,so after three months, they tried to reinlist. They were held to the intent of their parole and were disharged effective July 14, 1862 and sent home. On September 22, 1864 Truman married Lucinda Stephens, the daughter of Richard Stephens and Nancy Mount. Truman and Lucinda had five children, Oliver (b. 9-24-1865), Charles (b. 3-1-1867),m Perry (b.8-10-1869), Eva (b.10-11-1871), and Flora (b. 6-24-1884). Their family farmed 110 acres of cultivated land in Indian Point Township, Knox County, Illinois
