Description	:	Longtime Monte Vista resident Truman Lee Painter, 86, died August 17, 2012 at his home in Monte Vista surrounded by his family and under hospice care. Truman was born in Canon City the son of George and Dorethy Painter. In 1945 he married Annabelle Dutton and they were married for 36 years. He married his wife of 29 years, Ella Gretta Hand in Monte Vista at the First United Methodist Church. Read More	Longtime Monte Vista resident Truman Lee Painter, 86, died August 17, 2012 at his home in Monte Vista surrounded by his family and under hospice care. Truman was born in Canon City the son of George and Dorethy Painter. In 1945 he married Annabelle Dutton and they were married for 36 years. He married his wife of 29 years, Ella Gretta Hand in Monte Vista at the First United Methodist Church. Truman served in the United States Army during World War II and traveled across the world while serving. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Truman worked until his retirement, after 32 years, as a welder with Public Service. He was an active member of the Monte Vista United Methodist Church and volunteered and served in many different capacities. Truman loved the outdoors and had a passion for motorcycles. He rode with his wife throughout nearly all the US and through many parts of Canada. He was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, lifetime member of the BPOE in Monte Vista and Alamosa, and a member of the Woodcarvers Association. His love of the outdoors was expressed in hunting, archery, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed bowling, model airplanes and his horses. Truman raised and showed many of his horses throughout the years. His love for woodcarving led him to make many different scale carvings and detailed wood carvings of trains, trucks and a host of other items. Truman had many friends. He especially enjoyed the time spent at the church breakfast club and having afternoon coffee at the CO-OP. He is survived by his wife Ella Painter of Monte Vista; his children Lorretta (Jack) Holland of Monte Vista, Sherry (Jim) Bertrand of Alamosa, Robin (Mindy) Painter of Alamosa, Paul (Linda) Grazier of Denton, Texas, Rhoda (Adrian) Getz of Alamosa, Carl (Susan) Grazier of Rio Rancho, NM, Cheryl (Buck) Worker of Gallup, NM, and Shirleen Grazier of Monte Vista; his sister Billie Kay Chadwell of Alamosa; as well as 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. His parents, his brother Ray Painter, sister-in-law Gladys Painter, nephew Bobby Painter, brother-in-law Bill Chadwell, nephew Marty Chadwell, granddaughter Desiree, and great-granddaughter Kalista all preceded him in death. A Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 21st at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Monte Vista. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the Monte Vista United Methodist Church. Interment will follow services in the Monte Vista Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society either online at: www.cancer.org or may be made through the funeral home office. Rogers Family Mortuary of Monte Vista is in care of the arrangements.
