Description	:	Truman Rundel was born on June 12, 1826, in Penfield, Monroe County, New York to Myron and Cynthia (Kellogg) Rundel. His father died when he was only five years old. Truman married Clarissa Jane Crippen in 1850 in Penfield. He and his wife moved briefly to Missouri before arriving in Michigan in 1860. They settled first in Gilford in Tuscola County before arriving in the area of Bay City, Bay County after the Civil War. Read More	Truman Rundel was born on June 12, 1826, in Penfield, Monroe County, New York to Myron and Cynthia (Kellogg) Rundel. His father died when he was only five years old. Truman married Clarissa Jane Crippen in 1850 in Penfield. He and his wife moved briefly to Missouri before arriving in Michigan in 1860. They settled first in Gilford in Tuscola County before arriving in the area of Bay City, Bay County after the Civil War. It appears that he may have returned to his hometown of Penfield immediately after the war and prior to returning to Michigan in order to recuperate from his war wounds. Truman and Clarissa raised their four children in Bay City and Hampton Township, Bay County, Michigan. During the 1890's they spent time in California, Mobile, Alabama, and Virginia Beach, Virginia seeking remedies for Clarissa's failing health. Military: He served in the Union Army, 23rd Michigan Infantry, Company I (28 Sep 1864 - 18 July 1865). He mustered into the military and Civil War in Flint, Michigan on September 28, 1864. During his short tour of duty, he participated in the following battles. - Columbia, Tennessee (25 Nov 1864) - Duck River, Tennessee (28 Nov 1864) - Spring Hill, Tennessee (29 Nov 1864) - Franklin, Tennessee (30 Nov 1864) - Nashville, Tennessee (12-15 Dec 1864) Truman survived one of the fiercest hand-to-hand combats in the history of the Civil War at Franklin, Tennessee only to sustain a gunshot wound to the left thigh during the Battle of Nashville on December 15, 1864. He spent six months from January 10, 1865, to July 18, 1865, recovering from his gangrene-infected wound at Jeffersonville General Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Occupation: Primarily a farmer and carpenter. He also spent seven years digging for gold in California and served briefly as a Justice of the Peace in Tuscola County, Michigan. He reportedly circled the globe twice. Truman, 82 years old, died on June 8, 1909, of a cerebral hemorrhage at the home of his daughter Mary Maxson in Hampton Township and six days after suffering a stroke. He was buried on June 11, 1909, in Pine Ridge Cemetery next to his wife and in a plot shared by his daughter Mary and son-in-law James Maxson (Plot 12, first addition, immediately left of entrance halfway down).
