Lloyd Dean Hicks was born July 19, 1922 in Henderson, Iowa, the son of James and Bessie (Englehardt) Hicks. He graduated from the Emerson, Iowa Hight School in 1940 and then the Swallow Aircraft Maintenance School, in Wichita, Kansas in 1942. Read More	Lloyd Dean Hicks Lloyd Hicks, age 78, of Red Oak, Iowa passes away Friday, February 16, 2001 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Lloyd Dean Hicks was born July 19, 1922 in Henderson, Iowa, the son of James and Bessie (Englehardt) Hicks. He graduated from the Emerson, Iowa Hight School in 1940 and then the Swallow Aircraft Maintenance School, in Wichita, Kansas in 1942. He served his country in the Army Air Corps during W W II stationed in England and France. Lloyd was united in marriage to Carol Johnson on August 29, 1942 in Emerson, Iowa. Carol preceded Lloyd in death on April 21, 1997. They were lifelong residents of the Southwest Iowa area. Lloyd became associated with Thomsen-Bergren Hardware in 1950 later owning what is now Red Oak Downtown True Value. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Montgomery County Memorial Court of Honor, American Legion, and was a lifetime member of the Red Oak Ambassadors. Lloyd was a former member of the Red Oak Library Board and Park Board, Elks Lodge, Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and jury selection commission. Currently he was on the Magistrate Selection Commission. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Carol on April 21, 1997; brothers: Russell; Robert; and Harold; and a sister; Melba. Those left to honor his memory include his son: Jim Hicks and his wife Susan of Knoxville, Iowa; daughter; Nancy Lykke and her husband Jim of Omaha, Nebraska; 3 grandchildren; Jeff, Julie, and Nile Hicks; 2 brothers: James Hicks and his wife Caroline of Omaha, Nebraska; and Floyd Hicks and his wife Betty of Omaha, Nebraska; 2 sister-in-laws; Vivian Hicks of Emerson, Iowa and Janet Hicks of New Mexico; and many other relatives and friends.
