May 16, 1912 - Carroll Times - While it was generally known that Ubbo Albertson was ill and that it was perhaps only a matter of a few months until death would overtake him, the community was nevertheless, sadly shocked to hear of his death last Thursday forenoon. The writer met Mr. Albertson in the afternoon of the previous Tuesday and had talked with him and at that time he said that he was not feeling well but he was optimistic regarding his future health. The cause of his death was due to a cancer of the liver. Last fall he was troubled with a bad bone in one leg and he was treated at the hospital here in December. He recovered nicely from this and seemed to be getting along nicely. At the last term of court he was present at his usual post as bailiff and his many friends were glad to see him about again. However, the new symptoms recently appeared and crushed all hopes so far as his friends were concerned. Ubbo Albertson had an extensive acquaintance over the county. During the two terms from 1894 to 1898 he was county treasurer and he was an accommodating and was proved, an absolutely honest official and his record as an officer stands a credit and memorial to his excellent character. Previous to that time he was in business in Breda for twelve years. After serving for the county, however, he remained in Carroll and had been a continuous citizen ever since. Ubbo Albertson was born in Emden, Germany, on December 16, 1848. When a young man he came to this country and on May 11, 1878, he was married to Miss Celia Miller of Iowa City, the ceremony taking place at West Side. To this union were born nine children, seven of whom survive as follows: Albert of Sioux City; Edward, Ubbo, Theodore of this city; Mrs. C.M. Conden of Halbur; Mrs. D.M. West of Danbury, and Cecelia at home. These, and the grieving wife, mourn the loss of a kind and considerate husband and father, and the community extends sympathy, for Ubbo Albertson was respected and honored by every man who knew him because of his honest nature and genial disposition. The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon in charge of Rev. Ewards. The local Masonic lodge, of which he was a member, attended the services in a body. Interment was made in the Carroll cemetery.
