Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 16, 2020, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, in St. Lucas, Iowa, with Rev. Aaron Junge presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Urbie was born on July 28, 1943, the son of Christopher and Cecilia (Kruse) Kriener, on the family farm near St. Lucas, IA where he resided until death. He attended St. Luke’s Catholic School. On July 6, 1963 he was united in marriage to Rose Mary Hackman where they raised their four children, Bruce, Ivan, Marjie and Laura. They later divorced. He married Patricia Elaine Pracht on March 25, 2006 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA and they spent a happy 13 years together. Urbie farmed with his dad and later purchased the family farm and continued farming as well as doing custom work for local farmers. He and his brother Marvin owned and operated St. Lucas Implement. He later managed The Fort and also worked at Gary Mihm Trucking, Reilly Construction, McAnish Construction, Patterson Trucking and for many other farmers in the area. His favorite pastime was competing in tractor pulls all over the area, especially with his Sly Fox (the name of his White tractor) that he had fixed, restored and modified. He loved to hunt with his buddies and was full of stories and jokes that he loved to tell to anyone who would listen. He dearly loved his wife Trish, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his dogs and cats. He loved sports and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, even following them to the Rose Bowl game in the ‘80s when his nephew was on the team. On the same trip, he was selected to be on the Price Is Right TV show with a chance to win a new car (he missed it by $1). Urbie is survived by his loving wife: Trish. Two daughters: Marjie (Blake) Batkoff of Buffalo Grove, IL, and Laura (Mike) Goldberg of Elgin, IL. Daughter-in-law: Anne Kriener of Ossian, IA. Six grandchildren: Zak (friend Libby Manning) Kriener of West Union, IA; Mak (Hanna) Kriener of Cresco, IA; Keegan (Dan) Luzum Decorah, IA; Brett and Brittany Batkoff and Kyle Goldberg. Step children: Sheila (Lupe) Solis of Henrietta, OK; Allen (Marsheila) Prior of Beggs, OK; and Heather Garner of McKinney, TX. Step grandchildren: Michael Giles, Blake (David) Stork, Ashley Hegwer, Natalie Hegwer and Zakary Garner. Great grandchildren: Stella Giles, Kenley Falck and Rylen Luzum. Three sisters: Agnes Soukup of Ridgeway, IA; Rita Gerleman of Decorah, IA; and Ann (Jack) Herold of Fort Atkinson, IA. One brother: Clarence Kriener of Lawler, IA. Sisters-in-law: Leona Kriener of Cresco, IA and Connie (Kevin) Gentz of Colesberg, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Urbie was preceded in death by his two sons: Bruce and Ivan; parents: Chris and Cecilia Kriener; two brothers: Luke and Marvin Kriener; one sister: Irene Schmitt; three brothers-in-law: Vern Schmitt, Clarence Soukup, and Paul Gerleman; one sister-in-law: Geniece Kriener; one nephew: James Schmitt and one godchild: Jane Smith. Schluter - Balik Funeral Home Waucoma man dies in Saturday accident Tuesday, January 7, 2020 Decorah Newspapers Urban Kriener, 76, Waucoma, was pronounced dead at the scene after his pickup truck rear-ended a Case skid steer east of Waucoma Saturday night. According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Kriener was eastbound on Scenic Road near the intersection of Unicorn Road at about 5:30 p.m. when the collision with the skid steer operated by ---- Hensley, 28, Waucoma, occurred. Hensley was transported to Winneshiek Medical Center for possible injuries. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Waucoma Fire Department and First Responders and Tri-State ambulance. The accident remains under investigation.
