Craig, an old pioneer of Douglas and Chelan counties, has been lying at the point of death at his residence in Chelan for a number of days past, with a complication of troubles and it is thought, on account of his advanced age and extreme weakness that it is not possible for him to recover. Craig, an old pioneer of Douglas and Chelan counties, has been lying at the point of death at his residence in Chelan for a number of days past, with a complication of troubles and it is thought, on account of his advanced age and extreme weakness that it is not possible for him to recover. Died, in Chelan, Friday morning, December 4th, Uriah L. Craig, aged 72 years and 1 month lacking two days, of stomach trouble. Mr. Craig was born in Ashtabula Co., Ohio, November 6, 1836, his parents emigrating from there to Wisconsin when he was but 14 years old. On October 8, 1857, when he was 21, he was united in marriage with Miss Portia E. Wentworth, and removed to Argyle, Minn., in 1880, and from there to Waterville, Wash., in 1888. After residence of seven years in the Big Bend wheat belt, where they acquired a valuable farm of 160 acres, they removed to Chelan in 1895 for a permanent home, opening another faming in the vicinity of Hobson. Deceased was a hard working, stalwart farmer, careful and ruggedly honest in all his dealings with his neighbors, and a devoted and consistent Christian gentleman and was a member at the time of his death of the Chelan M. E. church. He was a kind and loving husband and father a truly good and highly respected citizen and leaves to mourn their sad loss, the faithful help feet who has been by his side for 51 years, a son Charles Craig, who resides at Cashmere and a daughter, Mrs. Reese Godfrey, of Chelan, another daughter residing in Wisconsin, and a sister, Mrs. Pete Pittenger, also a resident of Chelan.
