Description	:	Born in New Hampshire, Ursula's family moved to Winona Co, Minn. in 1856, following her sister, Susan Metcalf Pease's family who moved West in 1854. They settled in Whitewater township in the NW corner of Winona County. In Jan 1864 Ursula married Levi Emery. They married in neighboring Wabasha County. Ursula was a teacher at the time of her marriage and records indicate Levi did a little teaching in 1875. Read More	Born in New Hampshire, Ursula's family moved to Winona Co, Minn. in 1856, following her sister, Susan Metcalf Pease's family who moved West in 1854. They settled in Whitewater township in the NW corner of Winona County. In Jan 1864 Ursula married Levi Emery. They married in neighboring Wabasha County. Ursula was a teacher at the time of her marriage and records indicate Levi did a little teaching in 1875. From the book "Wilderness Home" by Joseph Nelson, page 73: "Oliver Nelson set aside a small tract of land in the north east corner of his claim for a school and on this the settlers built their first school house of hewn logs, 16 x 18 feet in size. The floors, benches and desks were of poplar lumber from the Watkins Mill. There was no chimney on the building as the school was held only three summer months. The salary for a good teacher was $14.00 per month or $42.00 for the full term. The first teacher was Ursula Metcalf who later became Mrs. Levi Emery." Ursula and Levi had 9 (or 10) children. Levi died in September, 1895 in Highland Twp. Wabasha County and was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview, Wabasha Co, MN. Also buried there was their 8-month-old baby, Clayton who died in 1874, and 21-year-old Edwin, who died in 1885. About 1902 Ursula went with her children: Ernest, Ursula, Julia and moved to Lake de May, Alberta. Son Charles joined them there. She lived there in a settler's prairie cabin. Ursula W. Emery died in 1914 in Lake De May, Alberta, Canada (Lake De May is a village about 10 miles from the Town of Camrose in southern Alberta, SE of Edmondton). From old publication: "Salute The Pioneers" about the pioneers of Lake De May area: "Mrs. Ursula Emery and her son Ernest homesteaded in the Lake Demay district. Mrs. Emery applied for S. E. 30-47-18-4 on May 29, 1902 and on the same day Ernest applied for S. W. 30-47-18-4. She received clear title to her land on August 15, 1906 and Ernest received his on April 26, 1907. Chas. S. Emery applied for N. W. 30-47-18-4 on February 27, 1903 but cancelled the application. A daughter, Julia, was also in the family group. The closest town was Wetaskiwin which meant a long trip for supplies by means of wagons. Shortly after homesteading there was a Lake Demay post office housed in the Neele Nelson home, where mail could be sent and gotten oftener. Of course as the years rolled along, Camrose came into being and also took over some of the mail duties. Mrs Ursula Emery passed away in the fall of 1914 and was laid to rest in the Lake Demay cemetery. She was 80 years old. [Her tombstone says Sept 16, 1915, but she was 80.] Ernest married Rose Nelson, daughter of Ed Nelson of Lake Demay and continued farming in the district until the fall of 1922 when he and his family moved to British Columbia. Julia married a widower with 3 children in 1917. He was C. B. (Ben) Larson of Ohaton."
