Description	:	Vaclav J. Prokop was born in Bohemia, June 7, 1865. At an early age, he came to America with his parents and settled in Chicago. From there the family joined the colony of emigrants, who migrated to Nebraska, settling in Knox county. June 19, 1890, he married Elizabeth Kounovsky at Pischelville. Here the happy couple lived on a farm about 7 miles west of Verdigre until 1902, when they moved to Verdigre and engaged in the hotel business, which they conducted for seven years. In 1909 they returned to the farm and resided there until retiring from active life, taking up residence... Read More	Vaclav J. Prokop was born in Bohemia, June 7, 1865. At an early age, he came to America with his parents and settled in Chicago. From there the family joined the colony of emigrants, who migrated to Nebraska, settling in Knox county. June 19, 1890, he married Elizabeth Kounovsky at Pischelville. Here the happy couple lived on a farm about 7 miles west of Verdigre until 1902, when they moved to Verdigre and engaged in the hotel business, which they conducted for seven years. In 1909 they returned to the farm and resided there until retiring from active life, taking up residence in Verdigre in 1926 to spend their declining years in comfort. To this union four children were born: Joe and John of Verdigre, Helen (Dwinell) of Verdigre and Mary Prokop of Omaha, all survive him. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister; Thomas Prokop and Mat Prokop and Mrs. Vaclav Nedorost, all of Verdigre. He leaves these besides three grandchildren and a host of friends and acquaintances to mourn his demise. At the time of his death, he was 63 years, 4 months and 24 days old. During the last few years of his life, he was troubled with gall stones. On October 25, 1928, he went to Norfolk and submitted to an operation to remove the cause of his trouble. For a short time it was hoped and believed that he would rally and once more get back on the road to health, but it was not to be. On November 1, at 8 p.m., he answered the final summons and took his departure for that place, which no traveler ever returns. The loving wife and children were with him at his bedside during his last moments to receive the final farewell of the husband and father. Deceased was an industrious and worthy citizen, a helpful and friendly neighbor, a true and steadfast friend and loving husband and father. Funeral services were held from the ZCBJ Hall, Sunday afternoon. There was a large attendance of sorrowing relatives, neighbors and friends present to pay their last tribute of respect. W.J. Svoboda made the funeral address and appropriate music was played by the Pavlik band. Interment was made in the Jelen cemetery west of Verdigre.
