Description	:	Vada LaVerne Smith passed away peacefully on March 31, 2019, with her husband, Lloyd Smith, at her side. After a six-year struggle with neurological issues and the serious health conditions they caused, she was just overwhelmed. LaVerne was born in Melbourne, AR, August 4, 1951, to Robert Loyd and Wilma Inez (Pearson) Claiborne. Read More	Vada LaVerne Smith passed away peacefully on March 31, 2019, with her husband, Lloyd Smith, at her side. After a six-year struggle with neurological issues and the serious health conditions they caused, she was just overwhelmed. LaVerne was born in Melbourne, AR, August 4, 1951, to Robert Loyd and Wilma Inez (Pearson) Claiborne. Her parents divorced when she was five, and she and her mother moved to Oroville, WA, where several family members lived. After her mother’s marriage to Floyd Crane in 1960, she moved to East Wenatchee, WA, where she grew up on the family orchard. She attended Lee Elementary School, Sterling Junior High School, and Eastmont High School, graduating in 1969. In the fall of 1969, she was hired as the Athletic Director’s secretary and school bookkeeper. In 1977, she moved to the Eastmont School District central office, where she worked first as the receptionist and then as the District’s payroll officer, until her retirement in 1999. She married Lloyd Smith in June of 1971, and they would have celebrated their 48th anniversary this year. Before her health declined, LaVerne loved gardening, sewing and needlework, and reading. LaVerne was preceded in death by her father, Loyd Claiborne; her step-father, Floyd Crane; her step-sister Mary Shanda; and numerous aunts and uncles. She was followed in death by her mother, Wilma Crane, of East Wenatchee, WA. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Smith of East Wenatchee; her sister, Novelyn (Roy) Brandt of Yakima, WA; her step-sister Jean (Howard) Turner of Brookings, OR; her step-sister Dorothy Armstrong of Brinnon, WA; her niece Tricia (Scott) Angell of Gig Harbor, WA; several step-nieces and nephews; and Inky the Cat. LaVerne was a quiet, private person who never wanted to be the center of attention. At her request, there will be no services. The close family will gather when she is inurned in the Whispering Water Garden at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee, WA. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to memorialize LaVerne’s life in a way she would appreciate may donate to the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society. The best way to honor her is to live as she did. Always keep your promises and fulfill your obligations. Always treat everyone with respect and dignity. Most important, always be kind to others.
